ENTRY PROGRAM

 
 

Dr. Henry Teoh, Program Director

Since the inception of the New York State Education Department supported Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) in 1987, Dr. Teoh has served as the project director. In addition, he also administers the SUNY-wide Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) program which is funded by the National Science Foundation. He is a Distinguished Service Professor in the Chemistry and Physics Department at the State University of New York and has been at the college since 1973. Dr. Teoh holds a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Texas at Austin, and has conducted research at the Brookhaven National Laboratory.

Dr. Duncan Quarless, Academic Advisor

Dr. Duncan Quarless is an Associate Professor of Chemistry in the Chemistry and Physics Department, and is also the STEP Director. As the Academic Advisor, he assists in the administration and planning of the summer and academic year programs. He also counsel science students on course and career options. Dr. Quarless holds a doctorate in Chemistry from SUNY at Stony Brook.

Ms. Lorraine Bondi-Goldsmith, Adminstrative Associate

Ms. Bondi-Goldsmith has worked with the STEP, CSTEP and AMP Programs since 1987. She is responsible for conducting program analysis, preparing all reports to sponsoring agencies, assisting in grant proposal preparation, and maintaining the budget. Ms. Bondi-Goldsmith holds a BS in Biology and an Ms in Environmental Science from LIU-Cw Post. In addition to STEP and CSTEP, she has over 20 years of birding research, and has conducted numerous informal workshops on birds and the environment. For two years, Ms. Bondi-Goldsmith served as an adjunct Professor of Biology at SUNY Old Westbury, teaching the laboratory potion of Biology for Non-Science Majors. She currently teaches biology lecture for non-science majors an adjunct professor at NYIT.

Ms. Virginia Ettrick, Administrative Associate

A teacher of English with more than thirty years of experience in the Amityville School District, Virginia Ettrick established a connection with the STEP program approximately fourteen years ago when she began teaching English in the summer program. After retirement a few years ago, she was invited to join the staff of STEP and CSTEP at SUNY College at Old Westbury, this time as an educational coordinator. She enjoys photography, creating newsletters for the program, and assisting with the development of curriculum for middle and high school students.Ms. Ettrick resides in Amityville.
